Welcome to my very bright and colourful Rainbow Lorikeet.
After sketching out what I wanted from the illustration I added watercolours and gouache paints with very little water as i wanted that pop in colour.
Rainbow Lorikeets are probably the most common backyard bird in Australia.
My kids just adore them and my sister has a whole family of Lorikeets that they hand feed.
One of the reasons they are so successful in suburban areas is that they have a flexible diet - they eat fruit, seeds, insects and what for it ----- meat!!!
As pets they can live up to 25 years, in the wild it is likely that their life span is much shorter (around 10 years).
