Pink Flannel Flowers (Actinotus forsythii) are a rare phenomenon, needing both fire, unusually high rainfall and heat to bloom. Their seeds can lay dormant for years waiting for the right conditions. Last year saw the most incredible flourish of Pink Flannel Flowers to the Blue Mountains region.
Pink Flannel Flowers only occur in scattered parts of eastern Australia, from the Blue Mountains to north-eastern Victoria. They favour heath and open forest areas at altitude. While not endangered as a species, they appear so infrequently that many bushwalkers have never seen them.
