Pied Butcherbird (Cracticus nigrogularis).
The pied butcherbird is a black and white bird known for its beautiful, complex songs, aggressive hunting of insects and small vertebrates, and the distinctive behaviour of impaling prey on branches to eat or store! Found in woodlands and parks across mainland Australia, (excluding the southern and southeastern coastlines and Tasmania.)It’s song and adaptability have inspired composers, dancers, and poets, making it a symbol of resilience in modern Australian culture.
“A bird’s song is nature’s way of reminding us that joy can be simple and free.”
