Kookaburra
Kookaburra
I had a wonderful time creating him. I really wanted to capture that devilish character of a Kookaburra where he is contemplating whether he will fly down and snatch that sausage from your BBQ,then sit high up in the Gum tree laughing at you!!!!
They are carnivores and eat a range of animals from insects, small mammals, snakes and even other birds 😞
Kookaburras are very territorial, which means they protect their living area and prevent other kookaburras from moving in.
They use their loud call to let other kookaburras know the boundaries of their property and warn them not to enter.
This usually happens at dawn and dusk.
Receiving the name “Bushman’s clock”. .
There is actually four different types of Kookaburras.
And chicks are born blind and naked, taking a month for their feathers to fill in and older siblings often help their parents with the next batch of eggs. !!!!
What good little siblings.
"Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree, merry merry king of the bush is here."
Hand drawn with just lead pencils, watercolours and gouache paints.
