 Baudin’s Black-Cockatoo (Zanda baudinii)
No, they aren’t Carnaby’s! Baudin’s Black-Cockatoos are the long-billed white-tailed black-cockatoos, endemic to south-west Western Australia. They favour tall, wetter eucalypt forests and are closely associated with Marri Eucalyptus, using their long, slender bills to extract seeds from its woody fruits. They often feed high in the forest canopy, making them less familiar than the shorter-billed Carnaby’s, which  more commonly visits Perth and coastal urban areas. Sadly, Baudin’s Black-Cockatoo is Critically Endangered, threatened particularlyby habitat loss and the loss of old trees containing suitable nesting hollows.

Created with pencil, watercolour, gouache and pastels on cold press 300gsm watercolour paper.
